Chapter 8 — SuretyPH How-To Guides

How to Choose the Bond Type for Your Inquiry

The SuretyPH inquiry form asks for a Type of Bond, and includes a Not Sure option. Choosing a type helps route your inquiry — it does not establish eligibility, and it is not a legal determination of what your contract requires.

Direct answer

Pick the option that most closely matches the security requirement written in your contract or bidding documents. If the requirement is unclear, choose Not Sure and describe it in the Message field.

The options on the inquiry form

  • Bid Bond — where a bond form is sought in connection with a bid or tender.
  • Performance Bond — where performance of contractual obligations is to be supported.
  • Advance Payment Bond — where an advance payment under the contract is involved.
  • Contractor Bond — construction-related requirements that do not fit the options above.
  • Commercial Bond — commercial or contractual requirements outside construction.
  • Other Surety Requirement — anything else an Obligee requires.
  • Not Sure — when the documents do not make the required form clear.

Inside the portal, Get Bond Options presents its own list, which includes Bid Bond, Performance Bond, Advance Payment Bond, Warranty / Maintenance Bond, Payment Bond, Customs Bond, Judicial Bond and Other Surety Bond.

How to decide

1. Find the security clause in the contract or bidding documents. 2. Note the exact form it names and the stage it applies to. 3. Match that to the closest option on the form. 4. Put the exact wording from the document into Message, along with the amount and validity if stated.

Background on each type is in the Types of Surety Bonds chapter, and How Contract Terms Shape the Bond Requirement explains why the document controls.

If you are uncertain

Use Not Sure and attach or describe the requirement. SuretyPH does not make a legal determination of which bond your contract requires; the requirement comes from your document, and the applicable insurer decides what it is prepared to issue.

Choosing a type does not establish eligibility

Selecting an option only categorises the inquiry. It does not mean the bond is available, appropriate to your contract, or approved.

Key considerations

Evaluation, underwriting, documentary requirements, terms, premium, collateral requirements where applicable, approval and issuance remain functions of the applicable participating insurer or Surety. SuretyPH provides information, accepts inquiries, supports document submission, facilitates applications and communicates status.

Key takeaway

Match the option to the security clause in your own documents, and choose Not Sure with a description when the requirement is unclear. Selecting a type categorises your inquiry — it establishes nothing about eligibility.
